When Mudcat, a long-time friend and legendary figure in the Atlanta blues scene, was ready to introduce a new album with a fresh sound and full-band energy, he reached out for help getting the word out. This was more than just another blues release, it was a new chapter for the band as they were introducing a more rock-and-roll infused album. My job was to help it get noticed!
My Role
I led a grassroots PR push and handled key visual and promotional tasks to support the album rollout:
-
Poster Design & Street Team Strategy
I designed a visually striking promotional poster that captured the spirit of the new sound—classic blues roots with a contemporary juke-joint edge. I printed and distributed these in local venues, music shops, cafes, and community boards across Atlanta’s blues, folk, and alternative art scenes.
-
Targeted PR Outreach
I created a list of 20+ blues blogs, magazines, and radio outlets with a track record of covering independent blues artists. I sent each one a customized pitch along with the album press kit, links, and artist bio, securing coverage from multiple sites and DJs. -
Live Event Photography
During the album release performance, I documented the event with candid and performance shots for use in post-show press, artist social media, and future booking collateral.
Results
-
Secured blog placements and responses from niche blues publications, helping expand Mudcat’s reach beyond Georgia.
-
Posters generated foot traffic for the release event, contributing to a packed room and successful merch table.
-
Photos from the show were used across social channels and included in artist press kits for future tours.
Conclusion
This project combined design, grassroots PR, and creative hustle to support a meaningful release. By blending analog outreach with digital PR, we helped Mudcat make a bold return with The Redeemers—a sound built for the future but grounded in deep tradition.
